Foster Family Support Services
Foster Family Support Educational Services provides specialized support and educational opportunities to foster parents involved with both Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) and Vancouver Aboriginal Child Family Services Society (VACFSS).
Using a caregiver-centered approach, highly skilled individuals work one-on-one with foster families to help them with their unique challenges caring for children in their homes. The caregiver, Resource Worker, Guardianship Social Worker and in-home support worker will work together to come up with specific goals and create a customized service plan.
Once the established goals have been reached, the caregiver and Resource Worker may choose to close the file or request an extension of service with new goals.
The B.C Foster Care Education Program
The British Columbia Foster Care Education Program consists of 53 hours of mandatory training on a range of topics, presented in 14 modules. It is recommended that the modules be taken in sequence to maximize the learning experience.
Online training is available for foster parents contracted with MCFD in the Vancouver Coastal Region. Caregivers can submit a Prior Learning Assessment to receive credits towards the completion of the BC Foster Parent Education Program based on previous education, training, employment and/or other previous learning opportunities.
